Personally, I didn't like using the Giant's Knife as it made the already easy fights too easy. And then there was the fairy sword from Majora's Mask... wow. But Zelda rocked the casba!

Annnnyway, ANet made their game with a lot of limitations, to be honest. If we do see any new weapons, I imagine it will be on whole new classes. But they are so tightly focused on game balance (something most other games get wrong, actually) that they naturally had a bunch of restrictions on it.

At this point in time, I'm not sure they could add new weapons for the warrior that didn't follow the typical 1-hand sword, 1-hand axe, 2-hands hammer structure. And certainly what you suggest would make shields extinct. Also, they would need to recreate all the animations for warrior attacks. If your warrior has to swing a 2-handed sword, he had better not swing it the way he does a hammer or else his right hand will be shredded by the blade. The way he hits enemies with sword attacks would have to all be recreated with fresh animations as well.

I think it's just going to be too difficult to impliment, unless you introduce new classes... and then you have to make sure they don't make the warrior worthless.

I've often felt that my Mesmer would look good with a rapier though.
